Kantisto published in collaboration with Separation Science a digital learning platform that provides valuable advice on everyday issues, problems and challenges faced by CE practitioners.

1. Why CE

This article is the first in a new series about capillary electrophoresis (CE), aims to be a low-threshold, practical and pragmatic aid for that implementation process by focusing on good CE working practices and troubleshooting. Download.

2. Method Development in CE: Selecting your background electrolyte

The selection of the proper background electrolyte (BGE) is key to a successful CE method. When we start our method development, the first thing we need to consider is how to get our analytes to carry charge. We will look into the effects of pH on analyte charge and discuss opportunities to induce charge on neutral analytes. Additionally, we look into those aspects of a BGE that make the peaks sharp and the precision and robustness good. Download.

3. The CE Capillary

The small diameter of the capillary in capillary electrophoresis makes for a very good heat dissipation compared with conventional electrophoresis. As a consequence, much higher voltages can be applied which results in a fast and efficient separation with high plate numbers. In this issue of CE Solutions we will focus on the capillary as used for CE and look at the typical choices of length and diameter for method development. We will also look at coated capillaries and discuss both permanent coatings and adsorbed coatings. Download.

4. Capillary Conditioning — The Foundation of Precision in CE

In previous issues we saw the importance of a controlled, constant electro-osmotic flow (EOF) for proper precision. In this issue we will therefore look into the different strategies for capillary conditioning, as a good conditioning procedure is crucial to a stable EOF. Download.

5. Injection precision and sensitivity

In this issue we look at the importance of injection settings for precision. We will also have a first look at sample stacking and see that by carefully selecting our sample solvent we can gain sensitivity in our applications. Download.

6. Detection in Capillary Electrophoresis

Previously we went through the fundamentals, the separation medium BGE, the capillary and injection in capillary electrophoresis. In this issue of CE Solutions we will reach the end of the system, the detector. We will discuss the most popular detection principles in use in industry and CE-related good working practice. Download.

7. Troubleshooting - the basics

You’re whistling on your way to work because it is a beautiful morning and you are looking forward to tackle the enormous sequence you started yesterday. It is an important one that will give all the answers to an anxious project leader who needs the data for making decisions in how to move forward with the project. When you get into the lab and go through the results from last night, the first injections look fine, but then when the real samples come, you only see ... nothing.... What happened? Download.
